It’s barely past 10 a.m. EDT, and we already have a contender for event of the day.

No. 4 seed Pedro Oliveira and Evandro Solberg had the entire Copacabana Stadium behind them, but still fell to 0-2 in a thrilling¬†match against Canada’s Ben Saxton and Chaim Schalk.

The heavily-favored Brazilians opened with a 21-17 win that was turned on its head when Saxton and Schalk powered back for a 21-18 victory.

The tiebreaking third set was even tigher, as the Copacabana rallied around the home pairing. Canada called timeout after Brazil evened the set at 14, but Saxton and Schalk snagged consecutive points to win.

Now Pedro and Evando need to beat Cuba’s Nivaldo Diaz and Sergio Gonzalez on Thursday to avoid a winless tournament at home.
