Popole Misenga’s Olympics lasted two matches, and that was fine by him.

That’s thanks largely to the Refugee Olympic Team member’s opening win over India’s Avtar Singh. It came by yuko, and capped a long journey from the Congo to Rio.

Misenga lost to the top seed, South Korean Donghan Gwak, in the next round, but was not complaining with the result.

From the Olympics site:

He said he was sure his family in Congo had seen him on television and that he “was sending them a kiss wherever they are.”

Another ROT member from the Congo, Yolande Bukasa, fell in her first match. She said it was “enough” just to make the tournament.
