Two games after tying the United States Olympic record for most three-pointers in a game with five, Diana Taurasi made the record all her own Wednesday afternoon.
Taurasi shot 6-for-10 from beyond the arc, scoring 25 points as the Americans rolled to a 110-84 win over Serbia. Serbia provided a far stiffer test for the Americans than either Senegal or Spain, but Taurasi’s onslaught from three pushed the United States to a ten-point lead at the end of the first quarter. Things got even worse for Serbia in the second quarter, as they were outscored 25-13 as the United States took a 56-34 lead into the halftime break.

Taurasi led five double-digit scorers for the United States, with Breanna Stewart tallying 17 points, Tina Charles 15 (along with eight rebounds and four assists), Angel McCoughtry 13 and Maya Moore ten. Despite Americans other than Taurasi combining to shoot 2-for-11 from three, the team shot 54 percent from the floor as their depth proved to be too much for Serbia to contend with.
With the win the United States went 2-0 against Serbia in women’s team competitions Wednesday, with women’s volleyball winning its match in four sets. Danielle Page, Sonja Petrovic and Jelena Milovanovic scored 15 points apiece to lead the way offensively for Serbia.
The United States women return to the court Friday with Canada, which is also undefeated in group play, being the opposition.
