It’s a terrific day for Germany rowing.
Both the men’s and women’s quadruple sculls teams claimed gold in Rio, the first two of a six medal day for rowing.

First the men held off Australia (silver) and Estonia (bronze) with a full-second win. Germany’s team is Philipp Wende, Lauritz Schoof, Karl Schulze, and Hans Gruhne.
Minutes later, the women’s crew went to work. The quartet of Annekatrin Thiele, Carina Baer, Julia Lier, and Lisa Schmidla topped the Netherlands and Poland for the top spot.
Team USA’s Grace Latz, Tracy Eisser, Megan Kalmoe, and Adrienne Martelli finished fifth.
