USA women’s water polo keeps up Olympic onslaught, clobbers China 12-4

The United States women’s water polo team continues to thump the competition in Rio.

Two days after handing Spain an 11-4 setback, the Americans looked even more comfortable in throttling China 12-4.

The defending gold medalists have picked up hardware in all four Olympic tournament prior to Rio, with two silvers and a bronze.

Team USA opened up a 7-1 halftime lead behind a hat trick from Maggie Steffens and eight saves from the outstanding Ashleigh Johnson.

Steffens finished with four goals, a perfect 3-for-3 on action shots, and Kaleigh Gilchrist added two goals in the win.

Next up is Hungary, who beat China 13-11 in its opener and plays Spain at Noon EDT.
