It hasn’t been a banner morning for badminton in the United States, a lot of which has to do with opponents.

American hopeful Howard Shu had a rude introduction to the Olympics from highly-ranked Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia, losing 21-14, 21-10 on Friday.

And doubles team Phillip Chew and Sattawat Pongnairat fell to 0-2 with a 21-12, 21-10 loss to Malaysia’s Shem Goh and Wee Kiong Tan.

Chew is back on the floor this afternoon in mixed doubles play with Jamie Subandhi. They lost to South Korea’s Sung Hyun Ko and Ha Na Kim on debut Thursday.

Also, USA’s Eva Lee and Paula Lynn Obanana face Denmark in women’s doubles.
