After losing their first two group play matches the U.S. men’s water polo team rebounded with a 6-3 win over France Wednesday morning. Friday morning the Americans will look to build on that momentum as they take on Montenegro in an important Group B match.
The two teams enter the match tied for fourth place on two points, and with the top four teams in each group advancing into the quarterfinals a loss would put either team in a tough spot at this stage in the competition. Montenegro, which also beat France, have suffered one-goal losses at the hands of Croatia and Italy. Driver Drasko Brguljan has scored five goals through three matches for Montenegro, and he’ll be one of the players the U.S. will need to neutralize if they’re to win.

All 12 men’s water polo teams will be in action, with the top two teams in Group A facing off in hosts Brazil and Greece. Another quality matchup is the Group B battle between Croatia and Italy, who have been two of the three best teams in the group. With Spain also on four points and facing a France team that has yet to record a win, Italy will need a positive result to at the very least remain even with the Spaniards in the standings.
