The men’s and women’s beach volleyball competitions continue Saturday, with both completing the Round of 16 matches. Among the teams in action is the American men’s tandem of Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena, who drew Austria’s Robin Seidl and Alexander Huber in their opening knockout stage match. While Dalhausser and Lucena won all three of their matches in the preliminary round, Seidl and Huber winning two of their three matches but finishing third in the group thanks to the beach volleyball point system.
One of those two wins came against Brazil’s Alison and Bruno Schmidt, one of the team expected to contend for gold. Alison and Bruno Schmidt will also be in action Saturday, playing in the first match of the day.

In the women’s Round of 16 bracket there are four matches, with the last being of particular interest to American beach volleyball fans. Poland (Kinga Kolosinska and Monika Brzostek) takes on Australia (Taliqua Clancy and Louise Bawden) meet, with the winner advancing to face Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross in the quarterfinals. There’s also an all-Canada matchup in the women’s bracket, with Sarah Pavan and Heather Bansley playing against Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas.
