In their first two matches of the Rio Olympics the U.S. women’s water polo team outscored China and Spain by a combined margin of 23-8. One would think that Hungary, which has reached double figures in goals in both of their matches as well, will provide more of a test for the reigning Olympic champions. That’s the final match of the day at the water polo venue, and a win would sew up first place in Group B for Maggie Steffans and the American women.

In Group A Italy takes on Russia, with the Italians undefeated through two matches and on four points as a result. Russia’s been “feast or famine” in their two matches this far, following up a 14-4 loss to Australia with a 14-7 win over Brazil. All eight teams are in action as the women’s close out group play, beginning with China and Spain at 8 a.m. Eastern.
The U.S. vs. Hungary match is scheduled to begin at Noon Eastern.
