The evening program at the track and field venue has been delayed due to inclement weather. Per Alan Abrahamson, heavy rain and winds have forced the delay of several events including the men’s pole vault final and qualifying heats in the women’s discus, men’s 110 hurdles and women’s 400 hurdles.

Two heats of the 110 hurdles were run before the IAAF decided to delay competition. Track officials decided that the bottom four runners in those heats, which were held in driving rain, would be allowed to run once again in an attempt to qualify on time.

The men’s 800 and women’s 400 finals are scheduled to complete the action at the track, but when everything will begin remains to be seen.

No announcement has been made in regards to when competition will begin, but there will be time needed not only for the weather to pass through but to also get the track in good enough condition for use without placing the athletes at risk for injury.

UPDATE: The men’s 100 meter hurdle heats have resumed, as has the women’s discus qualifying round. The men’s pole vault final is scheduled to begin at 8:40 p.m. Eastern. The men’s 800 final will begin at 10:45 p.m. Eastern, with the women’s 400 final scheduled for 11:05 p.m.
