More medals will be handed out in sailing and boxing, with the men’s and women’s 470 races being held in sailing and the men’s welterweight gold medal bout on the boxing schedule. Also on the boxing schedule is the women’s middleweight division, which means defending Olympic champion Claressa Shields finally makes her debut in Rio with Iaroslava Iakushina of Russia being the opponent.
In cycling, BMX racing will get underway with seeding runs in the men’s and women’s brackets. All three medalists from London are back in the men’s competition, led by gold medalist Maris Strombergs of Latvia, and women’s gold medalist Mariana Pajon is back as well. Lastly, the preliminary rounds of the women’s 10m platform diving competition will be held, with China looking to continue its dominance of the diving events in Rio.
