American boxer Shakur Stevenson fell short of his goal of winning an Olympic gold medal Saturday, as he lost to Cuba’s Robeisy Ramirez by split decision in the gold medal bout of the bantamweight division. As one would expect the Newark, New Jersey was heartbroken, breaking down in tears during his post-fight interview. The disappointment expressed by Stevenson led to some of the best in boxing, both past and present, reaching out via Twitter.

Boxing great Sugar Ray Leonard sent a video message to Stevenson from his account, with current champions Andre Ward (who’s been a mentor to Stevenson) and Terence “Bud” Crawford posting tweets of their own.
