Katie Ledecky won one of her two individual events in her Stanford debut, a sold-out dual meet at Oregon State on Friday.
Ledecky clocked 50.10 seconds to win the 100-yard freestyle after anchoring a 200-yard medley relay team to victory, swimming her leg after Olympic 100m freestyle champion Simone Manuel. Full results are here.
Manuel did not contest the 100-yard free against Ledecky. Ledecky’s personal best in the 100-yard freestyle is 48.28 seconds from 2015.
Ledecky’s previous 10 times in the 100-yard free — from 2013 through 2015 — were all faster than her time Friday, but she is two months separated from the Olympics, swam it among four races in one session and still won by .97.
Ledecky also finished second in the 200-yard butterfly (an event she hasn’t raced since 2014) and anchored a 400-yard freestyle relay.
Ledecky, a freshman who won four gold medals in Rio, passed up millions of dollars in potential endorsements to stay amateur because she wanted to swim collegiately.
Stanford’s next meet is against Washington State on Thursday, streamed live here.
