Olympic sprinter Ryan Bailey missed U.S. Bobsled national team selection races this week due to a back injury and was not named to the team but is still expected to compete later this season.

Bailey, who finished fifth in the 100m at the London Games, won the preseason push championships in September in his first foray into bobsled. That made him a favorite for one of about a dozen push athlete spots on the national team.

But Bailey’s injury and absence from this week’s selection races took him out of the running. The World Cup season begins in Whistler, B.C., the first weekend of December.

Bailey could make the team for World Cup races in early 2017, after the team is re-evaluated following fall competitions. He could also push in lower-level races, such as on the North American Cup circuit.

The national team includes Olympic medalists Steven Holcomb, Justin Olsen, Elana Meyers Taylor, Jamie Greubel Poser and Aja Evans, plus Summer and Winter Olympian Lolo Jones.
