Trinity Gay’s 30-foot mural gets finishing touches

A reported 30-foot-tall mural of Trinity Gay, the daughter of Olympian Tyson Gay who was fatally shot Oct. 16, is near completion.

The mural is painted outside the Class A Lexington Legends ballpark in her hometown. The words “Pass the baton” are followed by an image of Gay holding a red baton.

“I believe Trinity is passing the baton,” Gay’s paternal grandmother, Daisy Lowe, said at her funeral. “Who is going to take it and run with it?”

The baseball team said the mural was expected to be finished later Tuesday or Wednesday.

The primary artist, Dani Greene, collected money for paint (some 60 cans of spray at $10.99 per can) by going door-to-door and began work last week, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
