David Boudia’s bid for repeat gold in the 10m platform dive fell flat in his sixth attempt of the final at the Olympics in Rio.
After looking set for a Top Two finish thanks to an incredible 102.60 on his fifth dive, Boudia only managed a 68.45 on his final attempt.

That would put him behind Mexico’s German Sanchez with eight divers to go. Of those eight, two could catch him: China’s Aisen Chen, who’d need just 49 points, and France’s Benjamin Auffret, who was 98.9 behind Bouda and hadn’t done better than 94.05 in the final.
Auffret only managed an 81, and Boudia was guaranteed at least bronze, though it seemed fait accompli that Chen would pass Boudia and Sanchez for gold.
Chen did way better than simply pass them, throwing down a picture-perfect 108.00 dive to clinch the top mark.
